The Last Dance

5"x7" mixed media on canvas panel

I am that ragtime girl,
dancing between
Repression's abyss
& the sleek, sublime line
of literary theory

I'm asking you
to get caught up
in my groove,
kicking off too-hard shoes
that don't define us anymore

Let's go back in time
to the brandywine of jazz

Let's not talk about
the party ending
because it's all just dancing, baby

The Earth is on fire,
the flames are everywhere
& we all know the music
will stop soon enough

But I've got
a little left in me
before the World ends
& so do you.
