A Cautious Hope

We exist here
in a cautious hope,
thinking that perhaps
our populace has decided
to step back from the abyss

But the virus remains
to remind us
that our abuses of Earth
& our continued negligence of each other
will have dire consequences
if we do not change

So we will either
heed these lessons
or perish wishing
we had listened
when we had the opportunity
to do so.
